Well, what can we say; the lounge is David’s pride and joy. Covering four walls, the mural depicts 20,000 years of local history, from cave-dwellers, a mention in the Domesday Book, the devastation of the Black Death and a tragedy at Coombs colliery that claimed the lives of over 100 men and boys in the 1890s.The mural also shows mine hosts, Hilary and David Oldfield, and their dog Tip.

Local sculptor Stephen Hines commenced the project in September 2003, taking eight months to complete it, this is now probably as famous as his sculpture of the Madonna and child commissioned by Pope John Paul II in the 1980’s.

The Lounge is a lovely place to eat Hilary’s delicious homemade food and is also the main venue for parties and funeral teas.
